I have been an athlete my entire life. Throughout my childhood I played everything and anything as far as team sports were concerned. I was an All American college Lacrosse player, and also played 2 seasons Semi-professional football. As an athlete, I had specific goals to reach while training and motivation to become the best version of myself to help my team WIN games. I would participate in lifting and training sessions with the teams and its trainers 5-6 days a week. This would keep my fitness/ training and dietary regimens sport specific and geared toward an end goal.

Since my athletic career has ended I found myself getting bored and complacent in my workouts and seeing less and less results. Ever since I can remember I have always wanted ABS. Growing up and throughout my adult life I have always been overweight, obese, or “husky" (as my loving mother would say). It’s not like I was athletic back in high school then just let myself go as I got older. I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life. I’ve tried dozens of exercise programs and various diets throughout the years. Some have worked, but all of my past results have been moderate and fleeting. I’ve always wanted to look like that guy in the “After” photos but never really thought it could happen…until BODYSHRED!

I must admit that I was a bit skeptical coming into the BODYSHRED program. I was accustomed to the old school methods of lifting heavy weights and jogging on a treadmill, or elliptical machine for 30-60 minutes per session (boring). I’ve seen Jillian on TV and I knew she was pretty tough, but I thought that perhaps her workout would be too easy for me since I’m so macho. Boy was I wrong! This program is challenging but the moves are achievable. BODYSHRED is perfect for all levels of fitness because you push yourself as hard as YOU can, then you become inspired to push a little further. That’s where the results come from. The first week seemed really difficult and I wasn’t sure if I could make it through the full 60 days. When I stepped on the scale and saw that I lost over 9 pounds in one week I was inspired to push myself even harder. I embraced the intensity of the BODYSHRED workouts and the time began to fly by. I found my zone and I swear that each thirty minute workout felt like five minutes. Now, I’m having a blast trying to reach higher levels of endurance and strength every day. I’ll never go back to my old methods. I have adopted a whole new lifestyle. I used to think of exercise as a chore. Now I can’t wait to get to my next workout!

Before BODYSHRED, I was an active runner and gym goer that would workout 6 days per week without seeing the results that I was hoping for. I spent a lot of time working in a bar late hours and my eating habits were good, but not great. I loved the idea of exercising hard but I wasn’t sure how to go about it and what I needed to do. The real reason I was interested in the BODYSHRED program was for my best friend, Boris. He had recently begun the hard path of recovery from drugs and alcohol for the first time in his adult life. He had hit the bottom of his physical and spiritual self and had just begun to make his way back. I saw the rigid program as a way to help facilitate that recovery. Best of all, we could do it together. My only real goal was saving my best friends life.

But after the first week, my attitude changed. I started to feel more in my body than ever before. I found spirituality in the workout. I felt the support of Jillian Michael’s team and the others around me. I was still there to encourage my friend, but I began to be there for myself as well.

I was able to run 13.1 miles at almost the same pace as I ran the 10k. At one point in the race, I realized there was no one in front of me! I was in the lead and came in first overall! I never would have thought it was possible! I was happy to just be able to “run” a half marathon. I never dreamed of “competing” and actually winning the whole thing! I have never been the athletic type. I worked out occasionally, but was never consistent with any specific workout regime, nor did I ever make an effort to eat very healthily. About a year and a half ago I began to take kickboxing/muay thai lessons at a private gym, in an effort to get in shape. I was consistent with my training and began to see some results. However, I started a new job forty miles away from home which was extremely demanding and required me to work an insane amount of overtime, so I stopped training altogether. I began to stress about work, life and eventually regained all the weight I had previously lost, leaving me back to square one.

After several months of feeling frustrated and unhappy, I decided it was time for a change in my life. I was going to quit my job, go on vacation, find a new job that was less stressful and find a fitness routine that fit better with my lifestyle. When I heard about the BODYSHRED Program, I figured this was a great opportunity for me to accomplish my fitness goals.

I began this journey feeling extremely enthusiastic and motivated, yet soon learned it would not be an easy walk in the park. To be honest, the beginning was extremely challenging. I work in a really high stress job, so between how many hours I'm working and the high stress, I never could find time to go to the gym and I could always find a reason to eat, to make myself feel better, or as an escape from the work. So as I got into my 30s I found the scale creeping up and that I was starting to not look the way I wanted to. And I live at the beach. The beach is part of my life. Being in a bikini is part of my weekend, every weekend. When you find yourself hoping that there's gloomy weather, it's not a good thing.
